More than 300 people, according to the organization, have joined the demonstration called by the COAG in Villardeciervos to protest the management of the Sierra de la Culebra fire carried out by the Junta de Castilla y León.

Under the slogan 'We want to know the truth about the fire in our mountains', the demonstrators have demanded more responsibilities for the resignation of the Environment Minister, Juan Carlos Suárez-Quiñones, as well as President Alfonso Fernández Mañueco.

The directors of COAG Zamora have been reminded of the need to clear their responsibilities regarding the fire in the Sierra de la Culebra. The objective of this demonstration, in fact, has been to pressure the administration to report on the actions carried out "from the first moment the fire was known".

The agrarian organization does not understand "why the maximum risk of forest fires will not be eliminated" the days before the heat wave alert. A statement that, in his opinion, would have made it possible to deploy “more human and material resources” to control the fire in the Sierra de la Culebra.

The demonstration, in addition to demanding responsibilities, has also served to request that the various local, provincial, regional and state administrations "pay attention" to the professionals in the primary sector who have suffered the consequences of the fire. "Cattle ranchers, beekeepers and farmers seriously affected, both in their livelihoods and in their productions," they have deepened.

The Sierra de la Culebra forest fire was declared on June 15 and the full extent of the flames has not yet been known. At first, the Junta de Castilla y León itself warned that they had exceeded 30.000 hectares burned, although recently, in addition to daily reports of fires, it has reduced that figure to 25.000 hectares.

The voracity of the flames, yes, forced the eviction of the residents of 18 municipalities in this area of the province of Zamora. The climatic conditions and the insufficiency of resources mean that the fire started in the Sierra de la Culebra spread rapidly throughout the Tera valley.
