Juan Claudio de Ramón, winner of the III David Gistau Journalism Prize

The writer and diplomat Juan Claudio de Ramón has won the 10.000rd David Gistau Journalism Prize for his column 'Am I a feminist?', published in the newspaper El Mundo. The award, created by Vocento and Unidad Editorial, is endowed with XNUMX euros.

Sponsored by the ACS Foundation and Santander, this award pays tribute to the journalist David Gistau, who died in February 2020, who presented much of his career in the newspapers 'ABC' and 'El Mundo'. Its objective is to value the independent and quality journalism that David Gistau incarnated in an honest and courageous way.

A trial by the jury, Juan Claudio de Ramón “addressed with elegance, serenity and without stridency a debate that has seen a visceral cause of ideological biases. In a stylized, well-written and concise single, he eschews reductionism, illuminates the value of visible characters in an acrimonious debate, and invites the reader to think for themselves. Thus he turns his text into a reaffirmation of freedom of expression in public conversation ”.

The jury was made up of Jesús García Calero, director of ABC Cultural; Lourdes Garzón, director of Mujerhoy and WomenNOW; Eduardo Peralta, editorial director of Ideal; Karina Sainz Borgo, ABC columnist; Leyre Iglesias, director of Opinion at El Mundo; Manuel Llorente, editor of La Lectura; Maite Rico, deputy director of El Mundo; and Gonzalo Suárez, editor-in-chief of Papel.

In this third edition of the award, more than two hundred journalistic pieces published between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022 have been presented. The winner of the first edition of the award was the journalist and writer Alberto Olmos and, in the second , the philosopher and writer Diego S. Garrocho.
