The province of Alberta is one of the most important in Canada, both for its population and for its wealth of oil and natural gas reserves. The Spanish colony is distributed between the main cities, Calgary and Edmonton, the latter being the governmental, administrative and cultural center of the province. In addition, the city of Edmonton, located in the center of the province, sits between the southern part (where Calgary is located) and the northern part of it. On the other hand, there are other Spanish institutions in Edmonton, such as the Technical Advisor of the Education Attaché of the Spanish Embassy in Ottawa and the Spanish Resource Center, a joint initiative of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, the University of Alberta and Edmonton Public Schools. Thus, the transfer of the headquarters of the Honorary Consular Office of Spain in Alberta from Calgary to Edmonton will make it possible to provide greater consular assistance to both Spanish residents and non-residents, and reinforce the Spanish presence in Alberta.
For this reason, in accordance with the provisions of article 48.1 of Law 2/2014, of March 25, on the Action and the Foreign Service of the State, in relation to the Regulation of Honorary Consular Agents of Spain abroad, approved by Royal Decree 1390/2007, of October 29, at the initiative of the General Directorate of Foreign Service, in accordance with the proposal made by the Embassy of Ottawa, in Canada, with the favorable report of the General Directorate of Spanish in the Foreign and Consular Affairs and Directorate General for North America, Eastern Europe, Asia and the Pacific, available:
