How the Europa League group stage draw works

When making the draw or distribution of clubs in the different groups of the Europa League competition, UEFA establishes four conditions:

– The 32 clubs are divided into four groups of eight. And this distribution is made according to the ranking of club coefficients that is established at the beginning of the season and always following the principles established by the Club Competition Committee.

– The clubs are divided into eight groups made up of four football teams each. Each of these groups will have one club from each seeding pot.

– Soccer teams belonging to the same federation cannot play against each other.

– The eight groups that exist will be distinguished by colors. This is to ensure that paired clubs from the same country will have different start times (wherever possible). The colors are as follows: groups from A to D are red and blue for groups E to H. In this way, when a matched team is in a red group in the draw, the other team automatically will be assigned to one of the blue groups.

– The pairings of the Europa League football teams will be confirmed before the draw.
