The initial forecast is that the work will last one year, which could be delayed due to the possibility of transferring patients to Zendal. This center would also have to see its workforce reinforced with the corresponding teams of professionals from La Paz, who would arrive at the same time as the patients to receive the same care.

In the budget of the Community of Madrid for 2022, a quota of 1,3 million euros is contemplated for the first-class workers of La Paz. The works will last around a decade, and will cost some 500 million euros, part of which will come through European funds. Everything is going to be rebuilt, tearing down the current buildings and raising others with greater design and functionality. The only one that is going to be saved is going to be the Maternity Tower, a true symbol for the region, since tens of thousands of people from Madrid have been born there in recent years.
The comprehensive reform began with the adaptation of the Health Research Institute. And now, imminently, the displacement of the Clean Point and the construction of a new facilities building, high energy efficiency solutions, will be contracted.
It will be, once the works are finished, a hospital center designed for telemedicine, the use of data or 3D management. The project drafting and works management contract was commissioned from the Temporary Union of Campo de Retamas Companies, for an amount of 17,7 million euros, which includes the performance of geotechnical studies, preliminary project, basic project and execution project, but also demolition projects, documentation, urban planning, the mandatory information on the evaluation of the environmental impact and the study of safety and health.

Once the work is finished, the new La Paz Hospital will have more than 320.500 square meters of surface area – 72 percent more than its current extension – and will have 1.159 beds – of which 847 will be for adults and 312 for children. All the rooms will be individual, although 30 percent of them will be able to double the capacity, if necessary.
There will also be 12 delivery rooms, 253 emergency posts, 51 operating rooms and 675 spaces for outpatient consultations. Along with these improvements, the Carlos III Hospital and the Cantoblanco Hospital, both attached to La Paz, and the specialty centers dependent on this health center will also be reformed.

The first thing that is planned to be done is to build the new General Hospital building for adults.
