Sayas and Adanero stand up to UPN by creating their own citizen platform

Despite the sanction imposed by the UPN leadership, Sergio Sayas and Carlos García Adanero will continue in politics. They will do it, not only thanks to the deputy act that they still have, but also through a citizen platform. His political project does not yet have a number, but it does have an objective: to confront a government made up of a nationalism that seeks the "disappearance of Navarra".

Sayas explained that it is a "free" movement that was born "without tolls" and that seeks to give a voice to all Navarrese citizens who feel "defrauded and disappointed". “It is a movement that comes from many people”, because in his opinion, “you can be affiliated with a party and belong to this platform”. Specifically, Sayas explained, they have received the support of 631 Navarrese in recent days, "talented citizens who were waiting for an optimistic and exciting space from which to reach their voice", he assured.

Adanero added that the project does not intend to "go against anyone." In his intervention, it was insisted that through the platform it was intended to defend "a Navarra as a differentiated political community, within Spain and proud of its belonging to Spain". For this reason, he recalls that his opponent continues to be the “pentapartite government”, “sanchismo”, and not the parties that can represent the center-right in Navarra.

“A platform, not a political party”

The two deputies have insisted that their proposal is "a platform and not a political party" and that it was born with a vocation to be "transversal". However, it is difficult to separate the emergence of this platform from the crisis unleashed at UPN a few weeks ago. The Guarantees Committee decided to disqualify for two and a half years for skipping the voting discipline by not supporting the labor reform and a few days after they responded by presenting their own project.

“Our idea was to be in UPN but they have expelled us, they have left us no more options”, they reiterated during their appearance. The announcement also comes when there is about a year left for the next regional elections in the Foral Community. Currently, the Navarran right is in the hands of the Navarra Summa coalition, made up of UPN, PP and Ciudadanos. It is not clear that after the changes in the national leadership of the PP the coalition will be reissued, and the emergence of this new platform could lead to a serious fracture for the center-right of the community.

Neither Sayas nor Adanero have wanted to confirm their appearance if their future intentions are to attend the elections with this new political project. “When the elections arrive, surely there are formulas to be able to change the government”, they have limited themselves to pointing out.

However, in UPN they have received the news as an attack “against” them. Javier Esparza, president of the party, has assured that the announcement has not been "any surprise" and in statements to the media he has asked "to call things by suNUM". In his opinion, what happened this Friday is the first step “for the formation of a political party in Navarra”.

In addition, he has still been hurt by the betrayal of Sayas and Adanero, two people who in his opinion "have deceived all Spaniards and all Navarrese." Precisely for this reason, because "they are not trustworthy", Esparza believes that his project will not serve to "break" the UPN because, he has recalled, it is still a solid formation with an important territorial structure. “UPN is the political reference in this land, it has been, it is and it will continue to be”, he has settled.
