PlayStation prepares to remove its video games from the console and take your 'smartphone'

Sony is not satisfied with launching its video games on PlayStation and, for a few months, on computers. The Japanese company has recently announced the creation of a new division called PlayStation Studios Mobile Division, in charge of delivering its own new video games that will be designed, specifically, for smartphones.

“PlayStation Studios will continue to expand and diversify our offering further across all consoles, bringing incredible new games to more people than ever before,” said Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, in a statement in which the company shared that it had reached an agreement for the purchase of the Savage Game Studios, which has offices in Helsinki and Berlin and is currently focused on the development of an ambitious game that, for the moment, has not been announced.

The bet of the company of Kratos and Nathan Drake for the game in 'smartphone' does not take by surprise. The company has been sharing for more than a year its intentions to gain ground in this market, which moves billions of euros every year and can be used to reach all those users who, for whatever reason, are not willing to invest in hardware and put a cumbersome console attached to the television in the living room; but they are not squeamish when it comes to crushing the mobile screen with their fingers.

According to the latest yearbook of the Spanish Video Game Association (AEVI), in Spain 27% of gamers claim to play through their mobile phones, the same percentage that opts for the console.

Jim Ryan, president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, has already made a presentation on the principles of a year that has passed the future of the company to have video games on as many devices as possible.

“By expanding into computers and devices, and it has to be said…streaming services as well, we have the opportunity to go from being present in a very narrow segment of the general game software market (that of consoles), to be present practically everywhere”, stated the executive, according to the specialized media 'VGC'.

According to a graphic shared during said presentation, Sony expects that, by the means of 2025, in turn, half of its launches will be directed, specifically, to mobile phones and computers.

also on computer

And it is that the PlayStation brand also intends to increase the number of players who enjoy their games on their computers; a territory that, until now, has been much more exploited by its direct competition within console hardware: Microsoft.

In recent months, Sony has made available to 'PC gamers' a good handful of the great titles that PlayStation 4 received during the generation step, such as 'Marvel's Spider-Man', 'God of War', 'Days Gone' and 'Horizon Zero Dawn'. On Friday, the remake of the first 'The Last of Us' will join this list, the same will happen in the months ahead with 'Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales' and with the compilation that includes all the titles of the Saga unknown.
