In fact, during the pandemic, the company chaired by Juan Roig lowered them in 2021, although at the end of the year it had to modify its strategy due to the increase in the cost of transport and raw materials.

However, like Lidl, the price increase applied this year by Mercadona is below the average for the sector in Spain.

The Kantar report also revealed that organized distribution has increased by four weight points compared to 2021, reaching 75%, which is due to the search, by the buyer, for non-perishable or packaged food and beverages, que Han Pasado represented 48,4% of the consumer shopping basket, compared to 44% registered in the same weeks of the previous year. Where a teacher refers, Mercadona and Carrefour is less than more grows.

The study has also detected a greater purchase in large chains compared to traditional stores. as well as an uptick in demand for packaged and non-perishable products.

According to the consultant, price management will be one of the key elements this year. In this regard, the latest annual variation rate of the CPI will show an increase in prices that affects both private label and unmanufactured brands.

However, manufactured goods are more sensitive than distributors', which register a slight upturn in their shares, also driven by a greater supply of their assortment by distributors.
