ICADE and the Fundación Notariado develop an academic program for former notary exhibitors Legal News

The Comillas Pontifical University, through its Faculty of Law (ICADE) has developed a training program for former notary applicants. This is the Expert Diploma in Complementary Legal Training for the Opposition to Notary Public, promoted by the Fundación Notariado.

Students who pass this program will obtain a degree that will recognize both their knowledge in private law, obtained in the years of study of the opposition to a notary, as well as the complementary knowledge they will receive in administrative, tax and labor law, as well as in alternative systems of conflict resolution You will also recognize your professional skills and your ability to work in a team.

The training program that was presented is Lunas en Comillas ICADE in an act chaired by Sofía Puente, General Director of Legal Security and Public Faith of the Ministry of Justice, which also included the participation of the Dean of ICADE, Abel Veiga; the president of the Fundación Notariado, José Ángel Martínez Sanchiz; its general director, Pedro Martínez Pertusa; and the director of the Center for Law Innovation (CID-ICADE), Antonio Alonso Timón.

The General Director of Legal Security and Public Faith valued the initiative very positively: «The Notaries and the Comillas Pontifical University, one of the most characteristic in the country, have developed an extraordinary training programme; a program that will mitigate the uncertainty of these people, because I am convinced that those who attend these courses are going to have a very promising professional future“.

The dean of ICADE was congratulated that, after an intensification of the gestation, the project is now a reality. For his part, the president of the Fundación Notariado stressed the quality of the program designed in correspondence with the level of the exhibitors: "Only people who have demonstrated their excellence will access." For the general director of the Foundation, this program will reduce the uncertainty of people who decide to apply for a notary, who fear that they will not find a suitable professional opportunity if they do not pass the opposition or decide to leave it. Finally, the director of CID-ICADE details the different aspects that make up the course.

Your candidate has participated in this program for graduates, graduates or doctorates in Law who have prepared oppositions to the title of notary for a long period and have a certificate of suitability issued by their academies or preparers for the opposition. Access to the course will be direct for those opponents who have advanced some exercise of the opposition as a notary. In the case of opponents who have not passed any exercise, they must pass an exam.

Program and work outings

The program is aimed at acquiring legal knowledge in matters that no one can work in the opposition in order to complete their legal training, thus developing two of the eight transversal skills that are part of training and lifelong learning: ability to use different media, technologies or languages ​​in the field of each study in question (literacy) and entrepreneurship. At the same time, the course will work on professional and personal skills that will favor the change of dynamic followed by the student in preparing for the opposition, more solitary, and will learn to work as a team.

The course lasts three months (200 hours) with both face-to-face and online training and you can even receive recorded classes.

It is made up of 20 ETCS divided into 5 thematic areas or blocks: professional skills module (70 hours); administrative final module (34 hours); tax law module (36 hours), labor law module (24 hours), and alternative dispute resolution systems module, known as ARD`s in its Anglo-Saxon name (36 hours). To finish this module there will be a theoretical exam and a practical workshop.

The academic body will be made up of ICADE faculty, as well as notaries, State lawyers, lawyers from the Courts and the Council of State and lawyers from professional firms.

The summary of the legal knowledge of the graduates who obtain the Diploma and the professional skills developed in the course will allow ex-speakers to diversify their job possibilities, as business advisors, consultants or university professors.

You could also walk to the practice of law. For this reason, ICADE has established a list of recognition of subjects taught in the Diploma in the event that students decide at some point to opt for their Master's Degree for Access to the Legal Profession, as established in article 10, section 5 of Royal Decree 822/2021, of September 28.

Notary Foundation Scholarships

The cost of the Expert Diploma in Complementary Legal Training for the Opposition to Notary Public is 5.000 euros. Enrolled students will only have to bring 1.000 euros at the time of registration, and the Fundación Notariado will bring the remaining 4.000: 2.000 euros scholarship from the Fundación Notariado and another 2.000 euros as a loan without interest or temporary, which they will not have to repay until your working conditions allow it.
