what do you need and what changes

Today, Tuesday, February 2, a series of changes in the regulations drawn up by the Council of the European Union that regulate travel within the Schengen area come into force. From this moment on, the validation of the results of the antigen tests will change, as well as the European Covid Digital Certificate, better known as the Covid passport.

It was on January 25 when the EU ministers reached a sober agreement to update the rule to facilitate free movement and security in the EU despite the health situation. However, this modification did not enter into force until the publication of the Official State Gazette (BOE) on February 1.

We tell you what you should know:

PassportCovid

The European Covid Digital Certificate or Covid passport is still necessary to travel without being forced to present negative results of diagnostic tests or carry out quarantines.

However, a change has been included in its validation: the document will expire nine months after the application of the second dose of the vaccine. In this way, if a booster dose has not been received within this period, it will lose its validation to travel between countries of the European Union.

Antigen test and PCR

If we are in possession of a valid Covid pass, you will need to be in contact with other EU countries to present a negative diagnosis certificate including the minus and the number and names of the holder, as well as the lack of which was performed, the type of test that was carried out and the issuing country.

With the changes introduced by the Council, now, the results of a reinforcement test will only be valid when the sample has been obtained in the 24 hours prior to arrival in the country. In the case of PCRs, the standard maintains the 72 hours to validate valid until now.

Vaccinated with a single dose

In our country, many people received a single dose of vacuum because they failed the Covid-19 confinement where they were injected with Janssen's single-dose vacuum. In this case, these people should receive a second dose or booster dose within nine months of the last injection.

I got Covid-19 and my passport expires

The health authorities made the decision to extend to 5 months the recommended time to receive the third dose of the vaccine in which people with the complete schedule who subsequently become infected with the pandemic virus. However, this could contradict the European regulations of the European Covid Digital Certificate.

On January 27, the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, assured that in no case should the expiration of the Covid passport be a "handicap". Thus, the minister clarified that the five-month interval is not a rule, but a recommendation. In this way, all those who have the complete guideline and have passed the coronavirus can be vaccinated if their Covid passport expires and they need it to travel.
