Vox asks the Plenary to take measures to stop the plague of pigeons in the Historic District

The Vox Municipal Group in the Toledo City Council demanded that the PSOE in plenary session on Thursday put an end to the “very serious” problem of the plague of pigeons in the city. In this sense, it will request that a drastic eradication campaign of the plague of pigeons be implemented, through the massive placement of cage-traps and captures through nets to be put at the service of the hunting sector, that technical and economic aid be provided to the neighbors and owners of affected buildings to alleviate the damage and joint measures that prevent birds from nesting in dilapidated or abandoned buildings and that marchea stratagia be put in place so that once the objective is achieved, it does not reproduce again.

“In Toledo, the pigeon population is growing exponentially, especially in the Historic Center, causing a great patrimonial and public health problem. This is achieved in the face of the inaction and passivity of the local administration that avoids addressing the problem aligned with the prejudices for the purposes of the radical animalist ideology, abandoning it has been able to avoid those affected by it and our artistic and historical heritage ”, denounces the Vox spokesman , Maria de Los Angeles Ramos.

Ramos considers that we are "facing a situation of extreme gravity and urgency due to a phenomenon that, without palliatives, constitutes a plague that indiscriminately degrades the city and the quality of life of its inhabitants." “On the one hand, the effects of the overpopulation of pigeons systematically attack and destroy the elements of facades, roofs and interiors of buildings, both those of historical value and those of residential, religious, administrative, hotel, commercial or industrial use. And, on the other hand, people are affected by a well-being and health problem, since, as scientifically proven, these birds are carriers of a wide variety of fungi, viruses, bacteria and parasites. For this reason, it is necessary to act as soon as possible and effectively”, concludes Ramos.
