They alert about a new SMS in which they supplant Banco Santander and use an Amazon to rob you

Cyber scams don't stop even in summer. The National Cybersecurity Institute (Incibe) has alerted Sober to the discovery of a new campaign in which cybercriminals pretend to be Banco Santander with the aim of stealing personal and banking data from users. Unlike other campaigns, the criminals, in this case, try to alert the victim by stating that she is going to charge her account for 215 euros related to a purchase that would have been made through Amazon.

The campaign was undone through an SMS message. In this case, the criminals effectively pose as Santander and explain to the user that they must 'click' on the link that accompanies the message if they want to split the payment or cancel the purchase.

“SANTANDER: Dear customer, you are going to make a shipment of €215 from Amazon to fractionation or receive the receipts to complete the following verification; (fraudulent URL), can be read in the SMS.

If the Internet user clicks on the hyperlink, they will be redirected to a web page that attempts to impersonate the official Banco Santander website. There you are asked for all the necessary data to access your online banking account. That is, the ID number and the personal key.

"When entering the access credentials and clicking on the 'Enter' button, our page will return an error message indicating that an identifier or a valid password must be entered, although the cybercriminals will already be in possession of the credentials", explains Incibe .

The institution reported that it is possible that there are scam versions in which other companies or other banks are used as hooks. It is also not ruled out that the campaign is developed by email as well as by SMS.

How to protect?

All cybersecurity experts recommend distrusting those SMS or emails from companies or banks that seek to alert us. The ideal, in these cases, is to get in touch by another means with the person who has contacted us in order to clear up any doubts about the veracity of the communication. In this way, we will prevent our information from ending up in the air.
