The PP wins with fewer votes than ever but triumphs in 68% of the municipalities

To unprecedented elections, 'historic' results. With so many factors at stake in a unique election of its kind in Castilla y León, it will be necessary to prevent what comes out of the polls from moving away from the 'normal' of previous elections in the Community. It influenced almost everything. It was the first time that an electoral advance had taken place in these lands, never before had a vote been taken either in the middle of February or obviously coinciding with the last throes of a pandemic that has isolated the planet and with the 'boom' of local parties and the so-called Empty Spain. In addition, it was known that the appointment had from 13-F had since the president of the Board, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, summoned them on December 20 a clear national reading by presenting as one more proof of what could happen at the national level on the path undertaken by the PP to try to reconquer La Moncloa -after the magnificent results in Galicia and Madrid-.

As proof of this, the daily landing of popular positions, but also of ministers and socialist leaders and the training restaurant, justified by the fact that it was surely in the only place in the country where elections had been called and because the political scenario, so uncertain in the last few years, I may have sued him.

As a result of all this 'cocktail', the will of the citizens of the Community has wanted to give the PP the victory with less support in the entire autonomous history. Nobody before had won in regional elections in Castilla y León with less than 32 percent of the votes -31.8 specifically- and well below 400.000 votes -around 380.000-. In fact, in the absence of the count of a few hundred votes of foreign residents that confirms it, it is the worst result of the PP -before AP- in the whole democracy, even inferior both in votes -55.000 less- and in percentage -barely six hundredths in the historic defeat of 2019, possibly motivated in part on that occasion by the proximity to the general elections.

It weighs a narrow in the final 'score' between PP and PSOE, if there is an even more exciting precedent. It was in 1987 when Alianza Popular was the one that attended. After losing four years before with the Socialists, there will be a technical tie with victory by just 5.000 votes (now there have been 16.000) of the formation directed at that time by José María Aznar.

Victorious in the 'head to head'

The result was a distribution of 42 attorneys, which was finally undone thanks to an 'in extremis' agreement with CDS that allowed the person who years later would be president of the Government to head the Board.

In all cases, despite the configuration of the victory, the PP can take advantage of having been the most voted formation in 68 percent of the municipalities of the Community. Specifically, it was imposed in 1.529 locations out of 2.248. Meanwhile, the PSOE won 483 and, surprisingly, the party with the third most victories was Soria ¡Ya!, with 93.

In addition, the party led in the community by Alfonso Fernández Mañueco has been ahead of the PSOE in 1.700 municipalities -more than seven out of ten-, while the Socialists have only surpassed the PP in a total of 548. In addition, while the the popular ones have removed the first position to those directed by Luis Tudanca in 224 localities, the PSOE went back to the popular ones in 87 cases, with Aguilar de Campoo as the most significant.

Meanwhile, the Vox vote -great winner of the night by achieving 13 seats and almost 18 percent of the votes- has been distributed evenly in all the provinces, with a percentage of between 15% and 20% of the ballots, except in Soria, where the strength of the local formation Soria ¡Ya! he left her with 11,5%.

In the provincial capitals, Vox had a performance similar to that of the constituency as a whole, although slightly below. In fact, except in the cities of León and Burgos, in the rest they have had lower voting porches than those of the respective provinces.

In addition, the formation led by Santiago Abascal has been the party with the most votes in 80 locations out of the 2.248 in Castilla y León. The mayor of all, Boecillo (Valladolid), with just over 4.000 inhabitants. In addition, it has been the main formation of the right-wing bloc, ahead of the PP, in 140 locations, with Villaquilambre (León), with 15.000 inhabitants, as the main one. It has also received more than 50 percent of the votes in dispute in eight municipalities, all of them small. The mayor of all, Villán de Tordesillas (Valladolid) with just over a hundred inhabitants.
