The DGT denies the surveillance limits the circulation of trucks for the festival of Santiago

In the communities of Madrid, Galicia, Navarra and the Basque Country, Monday the 25th is a holiday due to the celebration of the day of Santiago. For this reason, the DGT foresees 6 million long journeys by road, 2 million more movements, compared to a summer weekend without an additional holiday. For this reason, a series of traffic regulation measures have been adopted, if the intensity of the traffic so requires.

The main movements will take place at the exit and entrance of the large urban centers towards tourist areas of the coast and coastline or to second homes located, all of them, in communities that, despite not being a holiday, will see an increase in the circulatory intensity of their roads

The most affected routes will be those of Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, the Valencian Community, the Region of Murcia and Andalusia.

  • Installation by means of cones of an additional lane in the opposite direction that increases the capacity of the road on those roads where there is a greater number of vehicles.

  • The restriction on the movement of dangerous goods vehicles, special transport and trucks with a maximum authorized weight of more than 7.500 kilos, during the hours and on the trams with the highest traffic intensity. These restrictions can be consulted on the web, by clicking HERE.

  • Stoppage of works in the execution phase in all the Communities lasts the end of the week from 1:00 pm Likewise, in the communities of Galicia, Madrid and Navarra, the stoppage increased throughout the 25th.

In addition to these additional measures, the DGT has published a series of recommendations with the aim of making car travel safer this summer.

For the trip to be made without a contract, the DGT recommends planning the trip properly and driving calmly. Traffic has several channels, dgt.es, the twitter accounts @informacionDGT and @DGTes or the news bulletins on the radio, in which the traffic situation is reported in real time and any incidents that may exist.

Also be careful to respect the speed limits. The limits established on the road are not arbitrary, they are established based on the characteristics of the route. Driving at speeds higher than allowed, exponentially increase the number of accidents and their severity.

Do not drive if you have ingested alcohol or other drugs. Half of the drivers who died last year tested positive for these substances.

Use existing security systems that require a simple action by the user such as child seats, seat belts, helmets. Its use prevented death in many cases.

Avoid drowsiness, with stops every two hours, and distractions, especially those related to the mobile.

Given the increase in cyclists at this time of year, drivers must exercise extreme caution and not carry out any maneuver that endangers cyclists. Vehicles that need to overtake a bicycle will have to do so completely occupying the adjoining lane if the road has 2 or more lanes in each direction. And if the solo route has a lane, keep the minimum separation of 1,5 meters.

In this case of pedestrians, if you walk along the town road, remember that you must do so on the left and if it is at night or in weather or environmental conditions that significantly reduce visibility, you must wear a vest or other reflective gear.
