Little Jorge Hernández Miguel, 'Obispillo 2022', has asked the Burgos City Council this Wednesday for more playgrounds “for children over nine years old”, to fix the sidewalks, cut down diseased trees and more canopies at bus stops. Those were the requests that have been transferred to the mayor of the city, Daniel de la Rosa, on the day of the Holy Innocents. Every December 28, the capital of Burgos celebrates the traditional festival of the Bishop, presenting a member of the Choir of Pueri Cantores, dressed as a bishop and on the back of a white mule, goes to the City Council to transfer their requests to the mayor .

The choir boy elected this year, Jorge Hernández Miguel, ten years old, arrived at the Consistory at 13:XNUMX p.m., accompanied by the vicar and the secretary, Mateo Cerdá Esteban and Rubén García Barbero, respectively. There, after approaching the people of Burgos from the balcony of the City Hall, the aforementioned requests have been transferred: that more playgrounds arrive, especially for children over nine years old, fix the sidewalks and cut down those trees in the city that are " enclose". In addition, he requested that more canopies be placed at bus stops, says Ical.

The 'Obispillo' is a freighter who is supposed to be the representative of all the children of the city on December 28th. It is a well-known figure, traditional in the Christmas festivities of the Burgos capital for decades, and its origins date back to the XNUMXth century, when the Metropolitan Chapter of the cathedral allowed a child to dress up as a bishop on this day.

Thus, each year one of the children of the Pueri Cantores Choir who received First Communion that same year is dressed, and for one day he is in command of the city to ask favors for the little ones. However, this tradition will be violated for a long period of time with the disappearance of the Choir of the Cathedral and without return until 1996 thanks to the efforts of the Cabildo.
