Everything is a list of the 37 participating countries to join the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. After months of waiting, we already know almost all the details of the candidacies that will represent each country throughout the two semifinals of the contest in search of a place in the grand finale next Saturday, May 13.

Among the countries classified for the gala that will choose the best song of the festival is Spain, which will try to revalidate the great result obtained in the last edition by Chanel. The person in charge of doing it will be Blanca Paloma from Elche, who will represent a new country with the emotion of her 'EaEa', a girl dedicated to knowing a grandmother who has already cast among her favorites.

But when are the semifinals and the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 held? This is all you need to know to not miss anything at this year's Song Festival.

Date of the semifinals and the final of Eurovision 2023

The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will take place between May 9 and 13, 2023. It will be during these days when the two semifinals and the final of the contest will be held.

  • First semifinal: Tuesday, May 9

  • Second semifinal: Thursday, May 11

  • Eurovision 2023 Grand Final: Saturday, May 13

Which countries will participate in Eurovision 2023?

Up to 37 countries chose to go to the Eurovision grand final, but finally only the 26 countries selected from among the previous semifinals, remembering that 6 of them lose to the so-called 'Big Five', who have the privilege of not having to go through the semifinals, these countries are Spain, France, Italy, Germany, United Kingdom and Ukraine, the last winner.

Thus, the remaining 20 finalists will come out of the two semifinals, where 10 will qualify in each one. It will also be the first edition in which only the public vote will count in the semifinals. Therefore, the professional jury will not help choose the qualifiers for the final, which will be selected entirely by the audience through their votes.

This year, candidates such as Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Montenegro have chosen not to submit to Eurovision due to economic reasons. Nor will Russia be present, since it was vetoed by the organization after the invasion of Ukraine – the country of the current Eurovision 2023 champions – and which has been extended this year.

The professional juries of the music industry do vote in the final, and their votes will be combined with those of the public to choose the winner among all, as has been the case in previous editions.

In which city is Eurovision 2023 held and why?

The city of Liverpool will host the festival, which will take place on May 9, 11 and 13. The reason is that the United Kingdom was in second position in Eurovision 2022 thanks to Sam Ryder and his 'Spaceman'.

Although Ukraine was the country that won the last edition with its 'Stefania' from the Kalush Orchestra group, the Song Festival will not be held in this territory. This change of location is marked by the invasion of Russia from South Ukraine, despite the fact that the Ukrainians had expressed their desire to celebrate the festival in their own land.

In this way, the Eurovision Organizing Committee uses the United Kingdom, the country that came in second position, to become the host of the contest, breaking for the first time the rule that the winners are the ones that host the new edition. Even so, the Ukrainian flag also appears in the official logo of this year's edition and will be given the corresponding prominence.
