Joaquín Acedo, the retired firefighter who does not stop helping those who need it most

Joaquín Acedo worked as a firefighter in the Tomelloso park and is now retired, but his vocation for public service, to help others, especially those who need it most, remains intact. That is why, at the height of the coronavirus, he turned to the elderly and now he is doing the same to the Ukrainian population, so cruelly punished by the war.

This Saturday, Acedo was fired by the mayors of Tomelloso and Socuéllamos, Inmaculada Jiménez and Elena García, at the start of a journey of more than 3.000 kilometers that will take her to Ukraine together with her partner and the president of the Castilian Manchego Association of Ukrainians, Oksana Verbitska. Precisely, the association has managed to fill two vehicles with food and various basic necessities.

In addition to carrying all the material collected, mainly food for children, diapers, medical supplies and warm clothing, the idea is already at the Ukrainian border for the ambulance that he drives as a health care post to attend to people who need it. Acedo explained that they will be joined by a volunteer prisoner in Barcelona and a similar expedition of bombers that will join this solidarity caravan in the French city of Lyon.

The Socuéllamos City Council has donated the ambulance of its Civil Protection volunteer corps, while the Tomelloso City Council plans to make a significant financial donation from the Foreign Cooperation item.

Wilbby will donate one percent of his sales

Wilbby, Tomelloso's cast app, will donate one by one of this March's sales to the Ukrainian people. The amount collected will be delivered to the City Council to be used to cover the most urgent needs.

In addition, a functionality has been created within the application so that any user who wishes can bring financial donations to the cause. The donations will be automatically transferred to the control account of the City Council to favor the transparency of the process.
