Ana Torroja is already a Marchioness

It's official: the singer Ana Torroja is a marchioness. The Official State Gazette of this Tuesday, February 8, confirms this, announcing that "it is ordered to issue, without prejudice to the third party of most right, Royal Letter of Succession as Marchioness of Torroja in favor of Doña Ana Torroja Fungairiño".

On October 2, 1961, Francisco Franco awarded this distinction posthumously to his grandfather, the renowned engineer Eduardo Torroja, for "devoting his life to research and teaching, and to carrying out very important works in our country, to which he delivered all his activities and extolled his prestige, which makes him worthy of national gratitude”. Nicknamed 'the magician of reinforced concrete', Eduardo Torroja did work such as the roofs and stands of the Zarzuela Hippodrome, the Central Field and the Clinical Hospital of Ciudad Universitaria, the cementing of the Sancti-Petri bridge and the Tempul aqueduct, in Cádiz, the González Byass wineries, in Jerez or the former Frontón Recoletos, in Madrid.

The title was later inherited by the singer's father, also an engineer José Antonio Torroja, who died on July 14, 2021. It was a month earlier when she commented on a glimpse of the possibility of claiming it: "The marquisate was they gave it for their labor and then my father inherited it. And now I think he pays himself to inherit the title. I did not care a little but my father is excited that it continues, so surely we will do the paperwork ».

Last December, the former Mecano requested to obtain it, and after a period of 30 days for allegations in case someone opted "with the right to the aforementioned title" (he has five brothers, but apparently none has shown interest), the The Ministry of Justice has granted it upon payment of the corresponding tax.

The news has been received with harsh criticism from the Association for the Recovery of Historical Memory (ARMH), which on its official Twitter of the social network considered it "an insult to the victims of the dictatorship and a less democratic price than the Government of 2022 inherits the gaze of a dictator and ratifies his decisions”. In 2014, Ana Torroja was sued for tax evasion and admitted three tax crimes for losing 1,5 million euros to the Tax Agency.
