The Tagus reserves are above the minimum for automatic transfers to the Segura with the previous regulations

The water reserves in the two reservoirs that supply the transfers from the Tagus to the Segura -Entrepeñas and Buendía- have been located at 725 hectometres, at Level 2 that allowed maximum automatic transfers until the Government changed the exploitation regulations in 2021.

The Tagus basin will show 62% of its total capacity, compared to 35% in the Segura basin, according to official data updated on Tuesday. And if this data is taken as a reference in the average of the last ten years, the first presents a greater situation, since it registers 57% in the deda, while the Levantine hydrographic confederation is even worse, having been at 42 % of the total water volume possible.

Under normal conditions, the pants of the previous basin could reach 38 cubic hectometres for me, but the new rules have reduced that maximum to 27 for two years, although its volume is well above the 600 threshold to pass to level 3. However, the Ministry has already applied this cut for discretionary criteria, although the technical commission authorized the complete shipment of water, on several occasions.

Until the Generalitat Valenciana filed an appeal against this modification, the Supreme Court has dismissed it, considering these restrictions "prudent".

After learning about this sentence this Monday, the president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, has celebrated another judicial ruling of the National Court against an appeal by the Government of Murcia for one of the monthly transfers reduced in 2019.

These cuts their predictions for the future that will be planted to raise the ecological flows in the Tagus in 2026 and 2027, also appealed in court by the Valencian and Murcian autonomous governments, in the case of Ximo Puig, because he does not review the situation of the masses of water when works and improvements are undertaken in the purification of discharges from Madrid before determining new ecological measures.

At the moment, under evident pressure from Page against an additional provision to the decree by the Generalitat Valenciana, the Minister of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, has announced her firm commitment to desalination. And a few days ago, she set the price of this water at 0,4 euros per cubic meter, approximately triple the amount transferred.
