Peru will not break with Mexico or Colombia despite their interference in the political crisis

The president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, denied this Thursday that she intends to break diplomatic relations with the governments of Colombia and Mexico, which together with those of Argentina and Bolivia do not officially recognize the successor to former President Castillo.

In a meeting with the Foreign Press Association in Peru, held at the Government Palace, Boluarte affirmed that "Peru is respectful of what happens in each country", while what happened to the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, when He was mayor of Bogotá and was restored by a ruling of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in 2020, “it is not a case similar to what happened in Peru with former president Pedro Castillo. In Peru there was a breakdown of the constitutional order when there was a coup”.

Yesterday, the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, wrote on his Twitter account that article 23 of the American convention establishes as a political right to elect and be elected. “To remove this right, a sentence from a criminal judge is needed. We have a president (Pedro Castillo) in South America popularly elected without being able to hold office and detained without a sentence from a criminal judge," said the Colombian president, who added: "The violation of the American convention on Human Rights is manifest in Peru . I cannot ask the Venezuelan government to re-enter the inter-American human rights system and at the same time applaud the fact that said system is being violated in Peru."

Regarding the official ignorance of the Mexican government to its government, in Boluarte's opinion that "is not the feeling of the Mexican people regarding Peru."

Despite the constant questioning of the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to the change of government and the appointment of the new president, he insisted that “we continue to maintain diplomatic relations with Mexico. Indeed, we have requested the expulsion of the Mexican ambassador in Peru after the statements in his program by the President of Mexico”.

The head of state stressed that they are working "hard to restore" the ambassadors of Peru in Mexico, Colombia, Bolivia and Argentina so that they can "return to their respective embassies, because it is very important for the region to continue working in the Alianza del Peaceful".

In the regional game of the Latin American left in support of Pedro Castillo, the president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, and the president-elect of Brazil, Luis Inazio Lula da Silva, have so far stood out.

Neither coup nor resignation

Regarding the restart of the protests in the south of the country that took place on January 4, the president said that I do not know the truth about it and that those who spread the lies are "those who lead the mobilizations charged with violence."

About these lies, the most frequent is that she led a coup against Castillo: “Dina has not batted an eyelash for what happened to former president Pedro Castillo to happen…on the contrary, I looked for him and tried without success that he had a different view of how to deal with the crisis”.

Ultimately, Boluarte announced that a 300 million dollar economic reactivation plan will be carried out in the country and stressed that she will not resign as president: “What would my resignation solve? Political disorder will return, Congress will have to hold an election in months. That is why I take on this task. Next January 10, we will ask Congress for an investiture vote," Boluarte settled,
