Music from Madrid unites for Ukraine

The world of music in Madrid is going to launch its particular 'offensive' against Putin's war, organizing no less than five solidarity concerts with the Ukrainian people in the same week. All of them will dedicate their proceeds to different humanitarian aid projects.

Sing for Peace

Today, Thursday, more than 200 boys and girls from educational centers in the Community of Madrid join the Escolanía del Escorial (a group of forty child singers who receive musical and academic training at the Royal Monastery of El Escorial), on a very special day to sing for peace in Ukraine and for children's rights. Students from schools in Collado Villalba, San Fernando de Henares, Cercedilla and Pozuelo de Alarcón have come together in this project to pay attention to the human tragedy that the Ukrainian people have been suffering in recent weeks, in an event that you will be able to listen to exceptionally to the usual voices of boys from the Escolanía along with those of girls from different educational centers in the Community of Madrid, something very unusual to witness.

Next Saturday, the Alcorcón Polyphonic Choir and the All4Gospel Choir from Madrid will join the Voces2b choir in another concert that will be held very close to Madrid, in Dosbarrios (Toledo). On the occasion of Europe Day, the European Youth Orchestra and Choir of Madrid, together with the Orchestra of the French High Schools of the World and the Choir of the International School of St-Germain-en-Laye celebrate a concert for Ukraine under the direction by Adriana Tanus at the National Auditorium. It will feature speeches by the Ukrainian ambassador to Spain, Serhii Pohoreltsev, as well as the French ambassador to Spain, Jean-Michel Casa, and the director of the European Commission Representation in Spain, María Ángeles Benítez. The program is made up of opera and zarzuela works by great composers such as Giuseppe Verdi, Thaikovsky, Jules Massenet, Gerónimo Giménez and Federico Moreno Torroba, among many others. The EDP Gran Vía Theater and the ProEnglish Theater of Kyiv, converted overnight into a refuge for the residents of the Ukrainian capital and a source of aid for other cities that have suffered attacks, celebrate their twinning with a very special performance. The director and main actress of this theatre, Anabell Sotelo, travels to Madrid to present her latest work, 'The Book of Mermaids', a show inspired by the current situation in the country. This function, which will be of a charitable nature and which can be accessed free of charge (until capacity is reached), will be performed at the EDP Gran Vía Theater. Likewise, during this act, there will be a charitable applause that will become financial aid for people who meet in Ukraine.
