The Archbishop of Valladolid, Luis Argüello, has appointed a new Governing Council of the Archdiocese of Valladolid, made up of eight members, among whom, for the first time, there will be a lay person who is also a woman: Carolina Pascual Pérez.

Together with the archbishop himself, the vicar general (parish priest of the Sagrada Família and San Ildefonso and spiritual director of the Seminary), Jesús Fernández Lubiano, and the chancellor secretary (parish priest of San Ramón Nonato), Francisco Javier Mínguez, constitute the governing body of the Archdiocese. . They will be joined by the judicial vicar and dean of the Cathedral of Valladolid, José Andrés Cabrerizo, and two area episcopal vicars: Miguel Ángel Vicente (archpriest and parish priest of Nuestra Señora de Belén and Nuestra Señora del Pilar, in Valladolid capital), for the city, and José Ramón Peláez (parish priest of Olmedo, among other municipalities), for rural areas.

Representing all the episcopal delegations for Integral Human Development, the delegate of Cáritas Diocesana (parish priest of Villafrechós, among other towns), José Colinas Blanco, has been appointed, while Carolina Pascual will be the delegate of the rest of the episcopal delegations.

Carolina is married, the mother of two children and a professor of Language and Literature at the Miguel de Cervantes European University. She was one of the representatives of the Diocese of Valladolid at the National Congress of the Laity held in Madrid in February 2020 and at the Final Assembly of the National Phase of the Synod, in June of this year.

The Governing Council, also called Episcopal, is the institution in which the main affairs of the Diocese meet there and the fifteen days under the presidency of the Archbishop of Valladolid. He will be advised by the Presbyteral Council, the Council of Archpriests, the Economic Council and the Pastoral Council, which Don Luis Argüello also seeks to reactivate in the coming months.
