Atlético is second to the beat of Griezmann

Little or nothing fancy the games at ten o'clock at night on weekdays. They are as exciting as football on Mondays: the spirit of the human being is not designed to enjoy if the obligations are kept just around the corner. The Metropolitan, wisely, showed too many empty seats -like those cold Europa League nights at the Calderón-, but Atlético went through such a moment of happiness that it only took an instant to return the effort to those present. Soto Grado whistled the start, the scintillating Molina claimed a possible penalty from an Arzamendia past the brakes and, on the next play, Griezmann, the footballer who elevated Atlético to a higher level, decided to kill a party that had barely been born.

  • Atletico Madrid: Grbic; Molina (Doherty, min.86), Witsel, Giménez, Hermoso, Carrasco (Correa, min.64); De Paul, Koke, Lemar (Reguilón, min.72); Griezmann and Morata (Barrios, min.71).

  • Cadiz: Ledesma; Jail, Meré, Mbaye, Arzamendia; Diarra (Lozano, min.46), Bongonda; Alcaraz, Álex Fernández (José Mari, min.61), Alejo (De la Rosa, min.72); and Negredo (Ramos, min.61).

  • Goals: 1-0, min.2: Griezmann. 2-0, min.27: Griezmann. 3-0, min.49: Morata. 4-0, min.57: Carrasco (p). 4-1, min.72: Lozano. 5-1, min. 73. Molina.

  • Referee: Soto Grado (C. Riojano). He yellow carded Carrasco (min.21), Lemar (min.37), Molina (min.45) at Atlético de Madrid; and Diarra (min.16) and Alejo (min.38) in Cádiz.

It was still minute one of the game when Carrasco accumulated an endless number of rivals around him, he has known a permanent feint in the left corner of the area. The Belgian slowed down, raised his head and found a man who makes an art of positioning. The end was obvious: Griezmann's left foot hit Ledesma's right-hand post. 1-0; in the blink of an eye, the rojiblancos were already walking down the hill.

Little mattered and that Cádiz was immersed in the fight to avoid relegation, Griezmann, to the sound of his enormous year, had a smile drawn on his face. The Frenchman channeled all the local attacks, changed the pace of the game at will, put balls for Morata's goal, threw Lemar and Carrasco off markers... He was at the same time the best striker and the best midfielder in Atlético. When Antoine had a better time, a beautiful wall at the first touch with Lemar assisted him for the second. There was still more than an hour of play left; Cádiz sensed the nightmare.

The return to the changing rooms did not change the narrative of the match one iota: Ledesma continued to reduce the waters because Atlético had settled in his area. Such was the superiority, that Hermoso -who knows why he was in the area-, as if he were Diego Ribas, stepped on the ball in a wasp's nest of yellow uniforms and put a perfect pass to Morata so that the ex-madridista finally surpassed the Argentine goal .

The result put an end to the little uncertainty that remained, but then, in a doubtful hand by Alcaraz, came the first penalty in favor of the rojiblanca season. The Metropolitan celebrated with irony and Carrascó did not miss the launch. Also, with 4-0 and enormous suffering, Lozano closed the gap with a great goal for the squad. It didn't matter, but what a beautiful shot. Right after, Molina closed the win. On another happy night at the Metropolitano, Atlético rose to second place in the league. Ahead of Real Madrid.
