A flight arrives in Barcelona with 227 Ukrainian citizens, most of them women and minors

The Government and the Vueling airline have transferred from Ukraine this Saturday 227 Ukrainian people, most of them women and minors -seven of whom are babies and none unaccompanied-, in what has been the first flight of this type that lands in the Barcelona-El Prat Airport.

In statements to the media, the Government delegate in Catalonia, Maria Eugènia Gay, explained that it was a 'rescue flight', which was transferring Ukrainian tourists who were in Spain to Warsaw or near the Ukrainian border and that, his return, has been filled with people who have relatives in the country.

Gay has assured that the new arrivals are being cared for by a team from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, "especially" children, at an exceptional time for the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

He has opted for "coordinating the reception of refugees in an exemplary and rigorous manner", and has assured that flights like this could be repeated in the coming days, since the Ministry has launched a contingency plan for the Autonomous Communities to coordinate seed operations tires

He insisted that "all of society as a whole must be aware of the importance of its coordinators" and has appealed for the unity of the international community.

For her part, the Undersecretary for Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Verónica Ollé, has reiterated that it is a "priority" for people to arrive in Spain, permanently and integrate as soon as possible, in addition to words. In fact, she has assured that the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá, has given precise instructions to “expedite immigration procedures” for Ukrainians arriving in the country.

He added that they are working on a plan so that people who want to access the reception system -which will expand their available places- can do so "simply and quickly", although none of the people on the flight plan to do so, because in their cases have close people residing in Spain, reports Ep.
