Screen capture specialist TechSmith has introduced Snagit 2022 for Windows and Snagit 2022 for Mac, a major new version of its capture and screenshot.
Version 2022 offers a variety of new features, including support for cloud libraries, improved image capture, and improved cross-platform compatibility that allow users to move seamlessly between Mac and Windows versions.
Snagit 2022 builds on the image-to-image feature introduced in Snagit 2021.3.
The new Cloud Library feature provides sync and backup capabilities for the entire Snagit Library, with users able to link to 5 major cloud drive services: Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, iCloud and Box.
Picture-in-Picture Capture, which is introduced in a Snagit 2021 update, has been greatly improved. Users can now capture both screen and webcam simultaneously with audio, plus the webcam window can now be used to resize and reposition anywhere on the screen, as well as show or hide it as needed danse The capture.
The new release also marks harmony between Mac and Windows builds. Now both platforms will enjoy the same tool properties. Windows users get the ability to add multiple queues to calls, transparent backgrounds for the Step tool, and a new T-shaped arrow. In exchange, Mac users can now adjust the size of arrow ends, access a shadow controls advanced and group objects on the canvas.
Other cross-platform improvements ensured consistency when using Snagit's markup tools to annotate screenshots. Snagit 2022 also introduces a new cross-platform file format, .snagx, which is designed to replace the platform-specific formats (.snag for Windows, .snagproj for Mac) that are available in previous releases.
Both Mac and Windows builds now share the same set of features.
Other improvements include a more stable video engine that offers better performance along with small files, improved audio and video synchronization, and support for a variety of webcams.
The Mac build also offers what TechSmith calls "reliable video recovery" in case of system crashes, while Windows users should see performance gains when browsing capture libraries and during startup.
Finally, in addition to a host of bug fixes, Snagit 2022 introduces new video tooltips that help make the program easier for new users to use.
Snagit 2021 is available as a free 15-day download for Windows and Mac. The full version costs $62.99. This includes a maintenance update, which offers free and premium updates for the next version when it is released. Maintenance then renews at $12.60/year to allow users to continue upgrading at a greatly reduced price.
